Minutes: Executive Meeting: April 6, 2010
Commander Luna opened the meeting at 6:30 PM. A quorum of post officers were present. The opening prayer was offered by David Lee. Participation at Friday dinners improving slightly..Flag retirement ceremony is scheduled for Flag Day (June 14, 2010). the Point of Sale POS system is installed the ease of conducting and inventory and the accuracy will be enhanced.. To complete the POS system a wireless barcode reader is required. Motion by McEnroe to authorize the purchase of the barcode reader for approximately $100.00 plus shipping and handling, seconded and passed unanimously. Finance report was read’ McEnroe made a Motion to accept, seconded and accepted unanimously. The finance report reflected apositive of approximately $141.27; however, the entire cost of the forthcoming raffle has been paid including prizes and raffle tickets. This indicates a gain of over $800.00 for the month. Chaplain Jennings has resigned; citing health issues. Commander Luna appointed David Lee and Interim Chaplain, Lee accepted and the executive board approved unanimously with enthusiasm. .
2nd Vice Setoa went through the forthcoming calendar of events. These a posted on the Post Web Site.
3rd Vice Karjala; ROTC Working on Boy’s State.
Adjutant McEnroe: Paid 2010 membership stands at 581 or 69% of goal. Checking account,:$4,211.04; Savings, $895.13 with $312 reserved for “12, 2 Pays”. One citizen has been selected to attend Boy’s State. Unfortunately, the Ysleta and El Paso school districts school year ends after the 2010 Boys’s State program and we ar still attempting to identify more worthy candidates. The installation of new officers is an auspicious event and I wish to porpoise the we invite the El Paso Historian Leon Metz as guest speaker; A cost is associated with Mr. Metz speaking.
The V Sweeps are not as financially attractive as they were proposes; according the contract will be reviewed and the syatem returned. An alternate is to rent the “Sweepstake “ software and use our own computer equipment.

The Special executive Meeting was called by Commander Luna for the singular purpose of planning a series of Veterans Appreciation Day(s) where the community could come and visit veterans of the conflicts in which they were involved.
Discussion included the What; When, Where and Who aspects of the event(s). Consensus was the a Committee be appointed: Castaneda, Rivas, Rutten, Karjala, Rivas, Clarence and Auxiliary member Tiscarena. Tentative date on or about September 9, 2009, the 89th Anniversary of the Post Charter Day: Food, entertainment etc to be determined.

John Sheets, Past 2nd Vice discussed the status of the remodeling of the “smoking pavilion” ; expletive completion is before the end of this month. Additional funds needed to meet the requirements set forth by the El Paso city inspectors.
Eileen Grozier, readjustment counselor from the Veterans Center explained the program and offerings of the center. Many thanks for this informative discussion,
Immediate Past Commander Chuck Martin was presented with an award for his past service.
Adjutant McEnroe; read the minutes of the July 7, 2009 executive meeting; motion to accept by Orfano, seconded and passed unanimously. The most significant items were the nomination and appointment of Ruben Castaneda as Post Finance Officer and past Finance Officer Wheeler presentation of the July 2009 and FY 2008/2009 finance report. The need to for all members pursue renewal and new member applications was stressed as was needed information IE: war service era, branch of service, correct address and phone numbers.
Finance Officer Castaneda presented the June 2009 and FY 2008/2009 finance report, motion to accept, seconded and passed unanimously. A visit to the TABC office revealed that “ No alcoholic beverages are to be removed from the Post Home building, except on special occasion and only with a permit”.
Service Officer Arden discusses changes in the concurrent receipt of benefits. Veterans with full disability are now exempt from property taxes on their homestead.
A commemorative plaque that was donated by Chuck Martin will be dedicated on the anniversary of Post 36 charter.
